| Who
is Eligible For a Card |
- If you live or own property in Schenectady County,
you are eligible for a free borrower's card, which may also be used
at any public library in the Fulton, Hamilton, Montgomery, Saratoga,
Schoharie, Warren and Washington counties (members of SALS/MVLS).
- Members of UHLS libraries may get a SCPL card for
a year at no cost. However, members of nonreciprocal libraries (Albany,
Bethlehem, Colonie and Waterford) will be charged $15.00 a year per
person.
- Schenectady County businesses or organizations
will be eligible for a company library card without a charge if its
director or president accepts responsibility for a material borrowed
on the company card.

Requirements |
- Individuals 13 years and older must present a driver's
license and proof of current address or another picture ID and proof
of current address.
- Individuals 5-12 years old need their parent's
or guardian's signature. If they don't have their own ID, a parent
or guardian must present his/her ID.

| Borrowing
Privileges & Responsibilities |
- Your new card is good for one month. During that month you may borrow
3 items at a time, and one item may be AV material (CD, DVD, VHS).
After one month, your card will be verified, and the three item limit
will be changed to the regular loan limits.
- Library cards are NOT transferable. Each borrower must have and
use his/her own library card, and is responsible for all materials
borrowed on the card. Parents and guardians of children 5-12 years
are responsible for materials borrowed on their children´s cards.
- Change of address or lost/stolen cards must be reported immediately
to the library because materials borrowed on an unreported lost or
stolen card remain the responsibility of the cardholder.
- There is a $1.00 replacement charge for a lost card.

| Loan
Periods |
Most
materials can be borrowed for 28 days with some exceptions. There are
exceptions listed below. The receipt issued when you borrow materials
indicates the due date for each item.
- NEW
fiction and nonfiction books may be borrowed for 14 days and Book
Express books may be borrowed for 7 days.
- Fiction-DVDs may be borrowed for 2 days and Adult Non-Fiction DVDs and VHS
for 7 days with a combined total of 7 items.

| Renewals |
- Most library materials loaned for
4 weeks may be renewed for one additional loan period.
- Renewals are available in person, by phone or
through the library website (www.scpl.org).
The new loan period begins on the day the item is renewed.
- Materials with loan periods shorter than 4 weeks
may not be renewed.
