Resources & Services

SCPL offers a variety of resources to meet your research needs. It has databases covering health, business, investing, readers' advisory information, genealogy, and more. Librarians can help you in your research needs.

We also provide Senior Outreach Services to Schenectady County residents who are homebound or residing in assisted living or nursing home facilities.

Interlibrary Loan services are available for those needing materials from academic, special, public, and school district libraries in the Capital District and beyond.

The Library offers two free discussion series. The Great Books Discussion Series gives adults the opportunity to meet informally to read, consider, and discuss some of the best books written in the past 2500 years. Discussions will be guided by Robert Donovan, Professor Emeritus, University at Albany, who will encourage the group to think about problems of meaning in the great books.Download the 2011-2012 bibliography here.
The Great Decisions Discussion Series is sponsored by the national, non-partisan, Foreign Policy Association. Its purpose is to encourage free and open discussion of major foreign policy issues.

Many of our libraries have meeting rooms that are available for a variety of social, cultural and educational activities and discussions of current public questions. They are available on equal terms to all groups in the community, regardless of beliefs and affiliations of their members, provided that the meetings are open to the public. No charge shall be made for admission to any meeting and no collection shall be taken up; neither may dues be collected. Contact the individual library for more information or to book a room.
