We were fortunate to have Jamie Ford with us for two days. On Friday, March 26, Jamie visited Schenectady High School where he spoke to 3 classes of students and then presented a workshop for some of the language arts and reading faculty. In the afternoon, students from Schenectady Christian School and Scotia-Glenville High School were treated to a workshop at SCPL with Jamie.
Saturday began at Dragon Gardens Buffet with the Open Door Bookstore Book Club, winners of the "Eat Lunch with Jamie Ford" contest.
Book Club members include: Debora Moran, Elizabeth Nelson, Laura Zeliger, Lynne McIlravy-Ackert,Helen Rowley, Shirley Morehouse, Esther Willison and Mary Baron. The luncheon was hosted by Jan Tunison and Jack Rightmyer at the Dragon Gardens Buffet in Scotia.
Book groups reading Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet had the opportunity to enter a drawing to win lunch with Jamie Ford on Saturday, March 27 at noon. The deadline to enter was Saturday, March 20. Twenty four book groups entered and the Open Door Bookstore Book Club was the lucky contest winner!
After lunch, we headed to Schenectady County Community College for Jamie's Program, "Hotel on the Corner of Bitter & Sweet:The History of a Love Story". Dr. Quinton Bullock, President of SCCC introduced Jamie. Following the program, attendees were invited to a reception with ethnic food from Mari's Japanese Restaurant and Dragon Gardens Buffet; and jazz music, provided by the Al Haugen Quartet. The New York Folklore Society, was present with the Story Box Project. Linda Smith from Divinitea served Asian tea.
Sandy Sankowski of Scotia was the winner of our Asian Tea Basket.
