The Friends of the Library coordinate and provide funds variety of programs for SCPL.
Monday Noon Programs
The Monday series of talks is held at noon in the McChesney Room of the Central Library on Clinton Street. You may bring a bag lunch; coffee and tea are available for a nominal fee. The room is equipped with special devices for the hearing-impaired. These programs are also broadcast on the Schenectady Public Access channel. See program listing for days and times. The Music Committee of the Friends of the Library coordinates music programs throughout the year.
Literary Trips
Program Coordinator: Lisa Holt
The Friends of the Library sponsors bus trips to the homes and museums of famous authors. Lunch at a nearby resort or historical inn is included.
Next Trip:
Saturday, October 2, 2010- Brattleboro Literary Festival in Brattleboro, VT. (please note that the information on the current website is for 2009 but everything will be the same this year except the visiting authors. The 2010 information will be on the web shortly.)
The bus will leave the parking lot at Barnes & Noble, Mohawk Commons at 7:00am. The cost is $30 for Friends of SCPL members, and $40 for non-members. An optional brown bag lunch may be purchased for an addition $10. For more information, visit the Whitney Book Corner.

Coming Soon: Literary England in Springtime
May 14-28, 2011: Join the Friends of the Library next spring as they tour literary England on a custom planned two week journey that will include visits to the homes of some of England's most well known authors as well as some of its greatest cathedrals, stately homes, castles and gardens. The trip begins with a two night stay in London before heading south to Kent and Winchester, then continuing north via the Cotswolds, Stratford-on-Avon and onto the Lake District National Park and back to London.

Previous trips:
May 8, 2010- Historic Hudson: We will be visiting Kykuit, built by John D. Rockefeller and Sunnyside, the riverside home of Washington Irving. Lunch will be at the historic Castle on the Hudson.
October 14, 2009- We visited Arrowhead, the home of Herman Melville in Pittsfield; and The Mount, Edith Wharton's home in Lenox. Lunch was at the historic Cranwell Resort in Lenox.
June 6, 2009- We visited the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum, and the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center. Lunch was at the Avon Old Farms Inn.
November 15, 2008- We visited the homes of Louisa May Alcott and Nathaniel Hawthorne in Concord, MA., and strolled the paths that David Thoreau walked around Walden Pond. Lunch was at the historic Concord Colonial Inn.
